The Moroccan hammam is a historical bathhouse, where natives go at least once a week to undergo a ritual-based cleansing treatment. The treatment involves aromatherapy, detoxification and massage using natural and organic ingredients, vital to the Moroccan beauty culture. The hammam is said to increase circulation, release toxins, and purify the skin.

Hammam is also a place of social importance centered around women’s encounters.

The bath works like a sauna- separated into three sections steam levels varying in heat- with the steam promoting the body’s cleansing process. The massage and exfoliating processes aid in releasing toxins from the skin, helping you feel refreshed and relaxed.

Essential Moroccan Ingredients:

Moroccan Ghassoul: Moroccan clay is one of the most popular aesthetic ingredients amongst the people of Morocco. It is an ancient organic, natural clay containing traces of more minerals than any other clay, with both hydrating and purifying properties. Especially in the north-eastern regions of Morocco, it is used as a hair treatment as well as a mask to exfoliate, detoxify and moisturize the skin due to its high content of silica, magnesium, potassium and calcium. The Ghassoul can be mixed with rose water (or orange blossom water) and argan oil.

Argan Oil: Rich in Vitamin A and E and omega-6 fattty acids, it has conditioning properties that help to nourish and moisturize the skin and hair. Pure argan oil is a plant oil produced from the kernels in Morocco and has been used for centuries to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Rose water: is made by steam distillation of rose petals. Rose water has been popular for thousands of years. It has traditionally been used for cosmetic purposes but can also be used as a fragrance. Rose water helps hydrate, revitalise and moisturise the skin as it contains many strong antioxidants and has antiseptic properties. In addition to its antibacterial and anti-aging effects, rose water also possesses anti-inflammatory properties.

The Moroccan Spa regime can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home, simply by running a warm bath, adding to it a few drops of Moroccan argan oil and rose water. The steam will help to open the pores, preparing the skin to absorb the benefits of the Moroccan Ghassoul. Follow the instructions to prepare the Ghassoul mixture and massage onto wet face. Allow it to sit there for up to 15 minutes whilst you relax and de-stress letting the Ghassoul work its magic! Once you rinse it off, your skin is left feeling clean and refreshed, as if you’ve just walked straight out of a Moroccan hammam.
